White Mouse Power

At one party a friend was hosting, someone’s AO muttered something so crude, it shocked everyone into silence. What did we do in response? Find a way to diffuse it with humor.

Mystery Celebrates Four Years in Second Life

It was four years ago this week that the Mystery sim was founded. And to celebrate, Tygeria Mirabeau and her staff are throwing a week of special events. They started out with a bang with Debi Latte singing live from the Queen of Hearts riverboat club. But Mystery has much more to celebrate besides the parties. There are new attractions, and even a sister sim appearing.

Ghost Ship Crashes Live Music Party at Mystery

On Friday afternoon, the Heart of Mystery Riverboat Club at the Mystery sim held one of it’s live music events. At 1 PM SL time was Zorch Boomer, whom provided blues and pop music to the crowd. At 2 PM came Lexie Luan, “The great music continues on the top deck of the Queen of Hearts as Lexie Luan takes the stage at 2pm!! Come hear this wonderful singer today!! Hope to see you here!” Sim owner Tygeria Mirabeau and sim manager Amythe Midnight were there. Micah Giha was the host.

With the sim at nightfall, the graceful Lexi wowed the crowd as she sang while strumming her neon-pink guitar. The audience responded with applause, “Woo-hoo”s, and comments like “Over the fookin’ edge.” A couple times, fireworks shot over the club, providing a little flash and color to the show.

Later in the show, the party got a visitor of a more supernatural and aquatic note. A roar like an ocean wave could be heard, but there was no sign of a big wave below. Then the audience saw the wooden bow of an old-time sailing frigate plowing through, but it harmlessly passed through everyone it touched. A ghost ship!

In just a few moments, the vessel had slid across the deck of the riverboat club, the stern leaving a little water in it’s wake, which vanished as the ship sailed on. The ghost ship sailed on for a little longer, and soon faded into the night from whence it came. The audience paused for a few moments before Tygeria called for the party to resume.

Lexi left the riverboat at 3PM, but before doing so revealed a little surprise for Tygeria with the help of Amy. Even though the musician left, some of the crowd stuck around for a little longer to continue the party.

On another note, Mystery is currently hiring additional hosts for it’s events. For “Themed DJ Events, the base pay is 150 L for two hours. For live music events, base pay is 150 L. The pay is in addition to tips given to the host by those attending, which can exceed what Mystery pays. Those interested are asked to contact Micah Giha or Amythe Moonlight by notecard (IMs tend to get capped). They are asked to follow rules for a PG sim.

Ringing in the New Year

Some in Second Life were at the official New Years Eve party in the Voss sim, watching the ball drop. But many other places in the Metaverse rang in 2010. From Skybeam to Mystery to Luskwood, each did so in their own special way.

Mystery's "Evil Christmas"

With most everywhere else enjoying a cheerful little Christmas, the normally romantic Mystery sim decided to give those whom find all the cuteness a bit sickingly sweet a break. Check out Mystery's "Evil Christmas" party in Community.

Second Life Zombiefest

Eating brains sounds like an odd way to help the Red Cross. But that’s exactly what’s happening, thanks to some residents in the Exodus sim. This weekend, Zombiefest is being held, with all Lindens raised going to charity.

Looking around, the place was like the setting of a horror movie, with people in undead avatars stumbling about, with tags like “Zombyonce,” “Will **** For Brains,” and other examples of “dead-pan” humor. There was a pale girl behind a kissing booth, “Kisses, $100L! Get your kisses here, by the help booth! A hundred Lindens to lick my rotten lips.” One lady gave out tarrot card readings from a gypsy wagon. There were also some vendors selling zombie AOs, and other goulish goods, as well as a few freebies available. At a funky-looking dance floor, complete with a danceball that looked like a round brain, a Rob Zombie band played to a packed audience of dancing corpses.

The idea for the event “originally started off as a zombie themed fashion show,” Putrid Gloom told me. He talked with Gattina Dumpling, “One of us, I don't remember who, found out that the 9th (of October) was International World Zombie Day. And so we formulated the idea to do something for charity that celebrated that.” Horrid Twine and Stein Shilova also helped to organize the event, “but we also have a group called Hot For Zombies, a zombie RP group. A lot of people came on board from that group and helped us. ... Also to be mentioned is that the good folk of NoR have donated this sim for the duration.”

Asked about the sim being filled to capacity, “We have had a fantastic response, bigger than we ever expected. It's been full from the get-go. When we talked Friday night, they had already raised a lot of cash, “So far we have just hit the 100,000L$ mark. We expect to make around 3 to 4 thousand (US dollars). Fingers crossed.” They were already making plans for the future, “Zombiefest 2010 is already being planned. ... We will probably do something around Christmas, but we haven't got any details for you I'm afraid.”

Saturday events had among them a Zombie Auction. Events Sunday include a Zombie dance party, complete with DJs, and a Burlesque show.

So for some Halloweenish fun a little early in the month, and giving to the Red Cross in the process, head over to the Exodus sim before the party comes to a close Sunday night.

“It’s to die for.”

Tygeria Mirabeau’s Surprise Rezday Party

On Wednesday October 7, Mystery’s manager Amythe Moonlight secretly IMed a number of people to ask them to drop over to the Heart of Mystery riverboat club at 4 PM SL time. The reason: a surprise rezday party for sim owner Tygeria Mirabeau. Tygeria had first appeared on Second Life four years ago, and a month after she held a birthday party for Amythe, it was time for the manager to return the favor. There was already a live event on schedule, and Amy was going to turn it into a birthday bash.

From Tygeria’s point of view, things went normally at first, people porting in, and singer Ichie Kamachi starting her live performance. Then all of a sudden, everyone went “Happy Rezday Tygeria!” to a stunned sim owner. After she got her composure back, she thanked everyone for the pleasant surprise.

The party and music went smoothly for a while, then the sim crashed, with people ending up elsewhere when they logged. Some of the people ended up in Zindra, leading to a few jokes the Lindens were trying to get the party a little wilder. The party was temporarily moved to a store, but eventually the sim was brought back online and people headed back. Tygeria joked that this was the work of the “masked lover” frequenting her sim in an attempt to be alone with Amy, though Amy swore no one came by to see her.

The “masked lover” Tygeria has been looking for was never caught, though a picture was taken showing an unidentified masked man dancing with Amy. No one seemed to recognize the avatar. Might this be the mystery Don Juan Tygeria has been after? So far, no one knows, and the 2000 Linden reward for the identity of the “Seducer” still stands.

Happy Birthday/Rezzday

There’s just something about a birthday party, or a rezz-day party as in Second Life people often prefer to celebrate that. Even among those who throw parties every week, these celebrations stand out.

Two friends of mine had birthday parties in SL a few months ago, Blarion Gazov and Nydia Tungsten. Nydia being a Sunweaver DJ, her party had lots of music and people dancing around, living it up, with a couple avatar designers showing up among the attendees. At one point, half of us were dancing on a “Carmeldansen” cube.

Blarion’s party was a surprise, planned by Aikun Neiro and Gwyendalin Gausman (real life daughter and mother). Aikun invited him over to their beach island on Fearly while the rest of us hid, then we rushed forward, “Happy Birthday Blarion!” After his, “Aw, gee ...” We all sat down for a fairly relaxed celebration. There was a little funning around, notably when one guy insisted on sitting on the hot grill, inspiring crack jokes if hot dogs came with “warm buns.”

On Labor Day weekend, two notable people had their parties, one birthday, and one rezzday. Pooky Amsterdam’s birthday was on Saturday September the 5th, and so she invited a number of friends and media audience regulars to a place. Hopping over, what we saw was a smaller version of her “The 1st Question” game show set. Among the people there was Chantel Harvey, a Machinima director, as were others on Pooky’s staff such as Kat2 Kit and Geo Meek.

Pooky explained she didn’t celebrate her rezzday as her experience in Second Life really didn’t begin until later, “The party was great. It inaugurated the new mini-home on Treet Island.” I was really glad to see Wiz & Texas there, and all my Friends. It really was a blastoid.”

On Sunday September the 6th, Tygeria Mirabeau gave her best friend Amythe Moonlight a surprise rezzday party. Live entertainment was part of the event, Lyn Carlberg and Taunter Goodnight. She sent regulars to the Heart of Mystery riverboat club notecards with the time of the party, and asking them not to tell Amy before the party, “For four years in SL, my Amy has been very wise, or foolish to not run away screaming. To me, she has been my guide and help, my teacher and my dearest friend.”

And the party went well, with many attending and a good time held by all. Tygeria herself got a surprise, her friend Jazzz Hermit logging in, taking a break from college. Amy did a little humoring around, “It’s my rez day and I will if i want to! You would do it too if it happened to youuu ...” But mostly, she felt humbled, “I have been blown away by all this, totally overwhelmed. I feel lucky to have such wonderful friends.”

So whether you’re a DJ, a sim & club manager, a media entertainer, or just a likable guy, there’s nothing quite like a birthday/rezzday party in Second Life.

“We Gotta Say Goodbye, For the Summer” - Bahama Beach Club Closes

At 6 PM Saturday August 22nd, the Bahama Beach Club at the Goldrush sim held it’s final event. Club owner Rory Langdon was the DJ that night, playing classic rock for a “Back to the ‘60s” beack party, with some guests and staff in their swimming trunks and bikinis. Instead of in the club, the party was held on the beach sands.

Rory Langdon, or Joe Ward in real life, has been playing music for over 30 years, with experience as both a DJ and club manager. Experience he brought with him to Second Life, both DJing and club managing here. In March 2009, he decided to start up a club of his own, buying up some land that already had a nightclub there, “Club 9:30.” As it turned out, there really was a Club 9:30 in real life. So he kept the building for a while, setting up a small beach club next to it, poles holding up a thatched roof, with a danceball overhead with a particle streamer sending down a light show at times, with a picture of a blue parrot behind the DJ stand, which became known as “Flip the bird.”

With his partner Marai McMahon helping to manage things, Rory had planned to run both clubs with events in both every week. But problems in real life cut down on his time in the metaverse, and the prim content limit limited what he could do with both clubs. So they decided to take down the nightclub building, building a a bigger beach club. They also put a little more detail in the beach. adding rocks, a waterfall, palm trees and hammocks, a secret cuddle spot, and more. Some people dropped over between parties just to see the beach scenery and relax. The new bigger club was renamed the Bahama Beach Club, though sometimes simply called the “BBC” as a pun on the famous media company.

Besides himself, Rory had other music-makers performing. Bosco sang at the club for a time. Later on came DJ’s SonicBlu and Boo Gearhead. And throughout the club’s history, there was ScratchMusikatt the “Chaos DJ,” playing for the late at night while he also performed in real life.

The club and it’s grounds took up a quarter sim, but prim limits limited what Rory, Marai, and the staff could do. There was talk about buying up a half sim, or maybe a full sim in the future for things like a staff residence home. Then his old friend and former neighbor Foxyfurman Kumaki who runs the Foxworthy sim offered a deal. Rory and Marai now have a section of the sim there for a club, which will be opened sometime in the near future. This time, it will be a nightclub to go along with Foxy’s casino next to the place. The land on Goldrush will be sold.

So, the Bahama Beach Club comes to a close, at least for now. It’s likely it will come back in some form, but the place at Goldrush will be missed.

As the final party came to a close, virtual champagne was passed around, and toasts were made.

“To this place being good to us, memories made here.”

“To memories old and new, to friends who shall never be forgotten.”

Thank you for the invitation Eymerich, I am sorry I couldn't stay.
I would like to thank all for making 2008 a great year and I look forward to a brand new year with lots of exciting challenges for us all.
2008 and has been eventful to say the least very firmly seperating the Lindens from the Residents with some VERY unpopular choices on the lindens part, my wish for 2009 is for Linden Lab to realise the damage they are doing to Secondlife and to act now before the good in SL is lost through mistrust of them.
I, for one, love secondlife as many I know do but now most stay for their friends and if large networks leave others will follow.

JamesT and Dana

What a night!

Oh what a night is right, right on til the wee small hours.
I must admit to not really being in the party mood last night, with being home with 3 young children and my love being away it wasn't a night I was looking forward to.
First I dropped in at Candy rose resort for the birthday of Lordpercy. Serina and Dax had sprung a surprise party for him and the family atmosphere was just what I needed to relax and start to enjoy myself, the fab 80's music from DJ Dax helped a lot. Thanks everyone!

Then on to Fire Island's 1930's and 40's new year bash
As always Carter and his crew had done a marvelous setup, this was Hollywood glitz and glamour at its best!
The party was in full swing when I arrived almost landing on top of Mia Linden, yes you read it right!
Fire Island parties are obviously not to be missed even for the Lindens!
The spinning globe above kept us all informed as to whose New year was approaching and every hour balloons flowed down over us and the party started again waiting for the next one!
Carter Giacobini: This was the perfect way to cap off an AMAZING year!! People were coming all night long, re-connecting, laughing... It really felt like a community event! It was FANTASTIC!

The party went on for over 14hours with never less than 30 on the sim! Some went to bed and got back up to join right back in again.
What a night, culminating in a conga line this has to be a party to be remembered forever!
I wish I could have stayed til the end, but off I went again.
This time at the invitation of Eymerich Lane and Roselinda Mayo at Roselindas' paradise I went along for a dance and a wind down after the party at Fire Island and also to meet up with Pup Witherspoon the new Miss Costa Rica, a lovely lady who fully deserves her title but for her its not about a beauty pageant, more about that later.
For now I just want to thank a few people for making my new year so special:
First and foremost has to be Carter and all the guys at Fire Island as well as Lyric and Harper who at least help me not to feel like the odd one out LOL, without you all it would have been a lonely evening *hugs* and 'Thank you'
Serina and Dax along with Mommy (Breezes Babii) and everyone at Candy rose resort, you have a special family there. Thank you so much for allowing to become part of it.
Eymerich and Roselinda I wish you all that you wish for yourselves for 2008, Thank you for a lovely time.

We look forward to 2008 with renewed hope for the future, with the friends I have made in my secondlife and all the crew of SL-Newspaper.com I wish all our readers the best for 2008

Finally but most importantly this paper would be nothing without the crew, Dixie Barbosa, Connie McMahon, Baron DeSantis, Dashwood Dayafter, Alesia Schumann, LaDonna Upshaw, Bixyl Shuftan, Nazz Lane, Delinda Dyrssen, Pelton Darkstone, Kerri Spitteler, and all the writers who have been and gone - Happy New Year to you all and many thanks from both James and I for being with us.
