Happy Birthday/Rezzday
There’s just something about a birthday party, or a rezz-day party as in Second Life people often prefer to celebrate that. Even among those who throw parties every week, these celebrations stand out.
Two friends of mine had birthday parties in SL a few months ago, Blarion Gazov and Nydia Tungsten. Nydia being a Sunweaver DJ, her party had lots of music and people dancing around, living it up, with a couple avatar designers showing up among the attendees. At one point, half of us were dancing on a “Carmeldansen” cube.
Blarion’s party was a surprise, planned by Aikun Neiro and Gwyendalin Gausman (real life daughter and mother). Aikun invited him over to their beach island on Fearly while the rest of us hid, then we rushed forward, “Happy Birthday Blarion!” After his, “Aw, gee ...” We all sat down for a fairly relaxed celebration. There was a little funning around, notably when one guy insisted on sitting on the hot grill, inspiring crack jokes if hot dogs came with “warm buns.”
On Labor Day weekend, two notable people had their parties, one birthday, and one rezzday. Pooky Amsterdam’s birthday was on Saturday September the 5th, and so she invited a number of friends and media audience regulars to a place. Hopping over, what we saw was a smaller version of her “The 1st Question” game show set. Among the people there was Chantel Harvey, a Machinima director, as were others on Pooky’s staff such as Kat2 Kit and Geo Meek.
Pooky explained she didn’t celebrate her rezzday as her experience in Second Life really didn’t begin until later, “The party was great. It inaugurated the new mini-home on Treet Island.” I was really glad to see Wiz & Texas there, and all my Friends. It really was a blastoid.”
On Sunday September the 6th, Tygeria Mirabeau gave her best friend Amythe Moonlight a surprise rezzday party. Live entertainment was part of the event, Lyn Carlberg and Taunter Goodnight. She sent regulars to the Heart of Mystery riverboat club notecards with the time of the party, and asking them not to tell Amy before the party, “For four years in SL, my Amy has been very wise, or foolish to not run away screaming. To me, she has been my guide and help, my teacher and my dearest friend.”
And the party went well, with many attending and a good time held by all. Tygeria herself got a surprise, her friend Jazzz Hermit logging in, taking a break from college. Amy did a little humoring around, “It’s my rez day and I will if i want to! You would do it too if it happened to youuu ...” But mostly, she felt humbled, “I have been blown away by all this, totally overwhelmed. I feel lucky to have such wonderful friends.”
So whether you’re a DJ, a sim & club manager, a media entertainer, or just a likable guy, there’s nothing quite like a birthday/rezzday party in Second Life.

WOW! What a week!

We have shown 7 artists and photographers in our gallery; Attila Fetge, Tom1 moonites, Neuron Bandit (Physche Designs), Memories by Mystique Sassoon, Cienega Soon and yesterday Rag Randt.
We had Newbie, Tiny, Trance and Wild west parties. Masterclasses in sculpty making from 10 Goosson of M&M creations plus How to make Machinima with Ariella Languish plus we heard Nazz Lane reading from his novel on the beach. Plus all the people that went to a huge effort to set up the fair for you to enjoy.
WOW! What a week!
We gave away over 90,000L$s worth of prizes to the winners of our contests in a star studded glittering ceremony and all I can say is
WOW! What a week!
I would like to personally thank each and every person that has made this week special but there are a few that have really gone above and beyond to help organise this week and they deserve credit for that.
There are 3 very special people at Skybeam estates that have choked me up with the amount of effort they have personally gone to to make this week the success it has been Nevar Lobo, Amethyst Starostin and Charlene Trudeau I thank you from the bottom of my heart for all the help you have given me.
All of our crew have been a huge help Bree, Bixyl and Nazz but I have to say Gemma Cleanslate and her Partner Qwark have been awesome, taking over most nights when parties went on late and we were all but collapsing from exhaustion, they took over and did an amazing job - Thank you both.
I also wish to thank Wilder PR, Annette Wilder and Mahala Bing who did so much to let people know across the WWW and the grid it would not have been the success it was without them!
One more person I have to Thank personally may come as a bit of a surprise, because it was to me, and that was Frolic Mills of Best of SL Magazine, not only was his team amazing but he personally oversaw the whole show to make it work in a very short time - when I shouted 'HELP!' Frolic was there and came to the rescue :) Thank you!
Now we have the cleanup to get started :) And I better stop before I started blubbing over my keyboard. So once again Thank you all and WOW! What a week!

Why is 2 years important?

We seem to have moved from just another blog to a viable, respectable newspaper all of a sudden at least we are getting a lot more notice recently.
For example We have been interviewed quite a lot, often by students doing degrees in journalism or for other media outside SL, like Zoidberg Exonar who came to ask us about SL as a whole and also on the way newspapers work within SL, Zoidberg interviewed us for Vox Publica, an online-based periodical for Norweigens.

Zoidberg Exonar: 12. Do you think ethical and democratic aspects of SL might be different in the future?
Zoidberg Exonar: I'm thinking maybe 5-10 years down the line.
JamesT Juno: not SL - I dont think so, residents dont think in ways of making money - they live here for fun not realising it costs money to create this world - two opposites
Zoidberg Exonar: Yeah, I see your point.
JamesT Juno: Linden labs have proven time and again that residents opinion does not matter to them.
Zoidberg Exonar: What do you think, Dana?
dana Vanmoer: that the Lindens have their business plan of which residents are unaware. The way most residents feel now is like guinea pigs
Zoidberg Exonar: OK. Interesting.
dana Vanmoer: at least those that have been here any length of time not those that just come to play a game
Zoidberg Exonar: Do you think perhaps virtual newspapers operating in SL might have more rules and constraints put on them by Linden in the future? Thus limiting your freedom to print basically what you want?
JamesT Juno: they can try - but again impossible to put it outside sl so, inworld magazines maybe yes, with a web based newspaper like ours ? no way - they can ban our avatar but its free to come back and let James and Dana keep living in the newspaper (I would love to run an underground newspaper hahahahaha)
dana Vanmoer: or by suing us for libel - which if we are expressing an opinion or someone elses' I dont believe they can do

JamesT Juno: love it, but we tend to live by the rules too
dana Vanmoer: we can continue through other avatars or by our writers remaining nameless
Zoidberg Exonar: You can print my quote in SL-Newspaper if you want ;)
dana Vanmoer: they cannot prove who wrote anything
Zoidberg Exonar: I understand.
Zoidberg Exonar: What role do you envision virtual newspapers such as SL-Newspaper? might have in the future, not just in SL, but in virtual worlds in general? Do you think that virtual newspapers at one point might be just as important to people as RL newspapers are today? Please elaborate on your answer. I am here of course making a distinction between web-based real newspapers, and newspapers such as SL-Newspaper which operates specifically in a virtual WORLD.

This is just a small portion of a very lengthy interview.
We are also featured in the new Venture Magazine which has moved to an online version with Solan Nightfire the new CEO & Art Director who interviewed us on how it all began and what keeps us going, read the full interview HERE
Thank you Venture for featuring us in our anniversary month.
Is there something about turning 2 years in SL? I don't know, I just get the feeling people see us as 'all grown up' .
Maybe you have turned two years, has peoples' attitude towards you changed? Do you get a different reaction from others? Add your comments let me know if I am imagining things?

Zurich City Opera House Celebrates One Year Anniversary

The Zurich City Opera House at Les Nereides is a virtual i-common space for musicians and music enthusiasts.
My interview with Ms Fisseux about the recent move and restoration of the venue appeared in this newspaper only a few short weeks ago.
Over the past year, the Opera House has hosted concerts every Saturday and Sunday afternoon, featuring an eclectic mix of live musical performances, and spoken word presentations by writers, poets and scholars. While the emphasis is on music, Ms Fisseux and Ms Westwick and their many friends and supporters are dedicated to building a community that promotes the appreciation of arts and culture in all of its forms.
Located on the bay at the heart of Les Nereides, the large multi-purpose theater provides an elegant location suitable to any music genre.
On Thursday, the 13th of November, there are four concerts planned to celebrate the anniversary and a free gift for everyone that comes to the event.
12 PM SLT, Artist Torben Asp will perform electronic music
1 PM SLT, Author Diana Allandale will read from her erotic stories
2 PM SLT, Reis Alter will perform live vocals with all-electronic
3PM SLT, Artist Soundcircel Flanagan will rock and roll live from Holland

SL5B is finally over

Who knows what will happen next year another Linden PR fiasco or a resident run event?
But whatever it holds in store for us all we will be there to bring you the highs and lows along with the many others who made such a great effort.
A huge Thank you should go out to all those willing volunteers who must have shed pounds running all over 20 sims trying to keep everyone happy - I wouldn't want that job for all the Ls in SL!
See you all next year!
Dana
SL5B exhibit to note:

The monument is the brainchild of Maxx Monde and all the textures and the monument itself is available free at the base of the structure so if you have an odd spare 756 prim parcel then you could have your very own bug tower! Or if not you can also just have the finely crafted bug that tops the monument.
SL5B double standards? What constitutes PG?

This being, The David (Michelangelo Statue) by Timmi Allen, normally a naked statue would not shock me or for that matter anyone in SL but this I am trying to figure out - he has full genitalia minus his nipples?????
Is Timmi trying to make a point here?
How does Artfox Daviau's wooden sculpture of a lady get censored and the nipples removed yet Timmi Allens statue with everything male on show get through????
I guess he hasn't shown nipples so its ok for a PG area?
I have nothing against nakedness in Art or otherwise and Timmis' statue is a wonderful work in sculpties made with just 14 prims.
I have nothing but admiration for someone who can make a sculptie to this high standard but what about Artfox'x lady? Why did she have to be censored? She was even less lifelike being created from wood?
I wish a Linden would come forward and explain their seeming double standards here - but I very much doubt it will happen! As always feel free to make up your own minds as to the reasoning behind this because sure as he is fully endowed no logical explanation will be forthcoming from LL.
