Holiday Happenings at M&M Creations

I had heard some interesting events were planned at M&M Creations for the holiday season.  A visit there recently revealed a unique shopping experience.  They offer  a variety of items for landscaping, as well as sculpties and items ranging from lanterns, furniture, gazebos and animals.  The creative people behind M&M Creations are 10 and Marcthur Goosson.
At the M&M Highlands, 10 and Marc have created a spectacular Mystic Winterland.
I recently  met with 10 and Marcthur at their main store in a cozy wintery sitting area.
SS:    So I understand you have big plans for the holidays, including treasure hunts. Tell me about some of the other things you are planning.
10G:   Well, full of plans, hopefully they (will) all be worked out and become a success.  First we wanted to do something like we did last year, discounts on the boxes with sculpties, but to focus only on the sculpts while we have much more to offer is a pity.
SS:  Yes, I agree.
MG:  Yes , soo much more (to) us.
SS:  What kinds of goodies can be had at the treasure hunts?
10G:   In the hope our visitors will take their time to see the island, I planned to have a kind of treasure-hunt by making 2 items each day for sale for 1 linden.. only they will stay on their original place and people have to start walking.
SS: Yes, that's what I heard...it sounds like a good plan.
10G:  Trees, lights or lanterns....gazebos, maybe even animals, flowers, shrubs...particles, (cacti)...do i need to go on?
SS: It sounds like a lot.
10G  Oh, books not to forget those.
SS:   And this is kicking off on the 11th?
MG:  Yes together with my birthday which (is) also the 11th:-)
10G:   Next to that we fill the gift box at the X-mas plateau every day with another gift, an item from our shops around the main store.
MG: LOL never coincidences.
10G:  That's no treasure or discounted, but just a gift like gifts should be, for free...and to see what can be created with (fashion) sculpties, not only fashion!!
SS:  And hopefully come back with their friends.  It's a great opportunity for people to get a sample of what is available here.
MG:  We are working hard, but SL has grown soo huge that it is difficult to get the right attention.
SS:  I can understand that Marcthur.
MG:  Marc is ok ;-)
SS:   Good, thanks, Marc, easier to type lol.
SS:   SL is almost overwhelming in what is available here.
10G:  Of course,, we focus mainly on fashion-designers, but it would be boring for us, we simply do not fashion-design, we have the resources for the designers, and the rest is 'having fun with sculpties'.
MG:  What 10 says is that we supply sculpties for fashion designers, but our inspiration let us make many more be.
SS:  Did you begin with that idea when you started out? I mean, the fashion end of it?  I know nothing about fashion design here, but I imagine the sculpies help to make the various pieces of an outfit?
MG:  Yes, indeed.  We started out  with scenery screens.
SS:   Yes, sculpties would be helpful in landscape too
MG:  And then sculpties arrived which finally gave me an opportunity in RL to make designs in 3D.
SS: That must have been exciting for you :)
10G: (and so it grew and grew and grew)
MG:  Exciting YES, and many many hours experimenting :-)
10G:  Out of making, building with and selling sculpties grew the questions for explanation or workshops, so tutorials have become a part of my sl-fun.  Hopefully I will do some more next year.
SS:  I'm sure it could not have grown without your creative input and ideas
10G:  I'm happy the pc's are still indoors and the windows aren't broken hahaha.
MG:  And of course with the help of so many creative minds here in SL,
SS:  Yes, there is a lot of creativity in SL.
10G:  That's why we would like to thank all our friends, costumers, designers , they made this all happen and possible as well.
SS:  What sets M&M Creations apart from other shops in SL?
MG:  Quality for sure, and we offer FULL PERM sculpties...and variety, originality.
10G: Quality.
SS:  Full perm, a very nice feature.
MG:  And shapes that put other creative minds into work.  Others are inspired by us, to make stuff with our shapes they never thought of, and customers are free to inspire us with their ideas.
10G: And we're helpfull, but that's a common thing I noticed last year.
SS:  Do you feel that others are in a sense taking your ideas?
MG:  Sure we are copied.
S S:  I guess there is a lot of that in SL.
MG:  But it is ok when others are inspired.
SS:  It seems like you manage to remain unique, however.
MG:  We are unique in our kind of way,  we have our own identity.
SS:  The trick is keeping it Marc :)
MG:  Hahaha, well, so far so good.
10G:  That's why we don't explore entire SL like most do.  We never go out looking for others or our competition, so we will stay that way I guess.
MG:  I hardly ever explore SL.  I visit my customers .
SS:  I do not do a lot of exploring either, unless I have a purpose to go somewhere.
MG:  Well as a jouralist you should :-)

SS:   Things tend to fall into my lap.
MG:  That is a good phrase.
SS:  Hahaha, I am lucky I suppose.
10G:  If we would explore sl we (would) find too much realistic places and it will 'kill' our creativity and own identity in what we do.
10 and Marcthur are a RL couple also affectionately referred to as M&M.  Their work in SL is their daily RL work.  I found them both to be very creative, interesting and intelligent.  Their combined talent is amazing.  I would encourage all to participate in their scheduled hunts beginning on the 11th.  Further details are provided below.
Every day another  FREE gift-in-a-box with an M&M Creation can be found on the X-mas tree-plateau in the middle of the  Main Store and TP point in a special M&M GiftBox.  Also every day, another SCULPTY BOX  created by Marcthur Goosson with a discount from 10%-50%!!!  These can be found underneath the tiny X-mas tree standing on the box itself at the Main Store!!
Additional promotions include 2 creations of M&M Trees & Landscaping for sale for 1 linden .  Those landscaping-items can be found outside the mainstore at the Natural Park, they will change EVERY DAY!
You need to walk around and click items (such as trees, flowers, lanterns, entrees, shrubs, furniture, gazebos, animals, et.) to find the ' Treasures of the Day'.  MAYBE look out for a tiny X-mas tree which could be found near the Treasures.

FASHION DESIGNERS CHALLENGE

FDC # 11 - Sioxie Legend and Tuli Asturias

Sioxie Legend was challenged by SySy Chapman to: "The Challenge: Miss Jackson if you're nasty!!!! I couldn't resist to put up this challenge, being a HUGE fan of Janet, i thought it was fun to have someone create something typical Janet Jackson! This can be anything, you can make it as how YOU see Janet, in a bad or good way, but the style should be really MISS JACKSON! It can be a showoutfit, or a casual one, a redcarpet or performance one, Ironic and funny or serious and adoring JJ aswell, i want to see YOUR view of Janet. (a note: the infamous superbowl nipplegate outfit is in the makes by myself LMAo so that one is a no no!) For the rest, feel free to come up with anything you want, as long as its inspired on some good old JJ vibes!!! Get the point???? ...... GOOD! Let's Dance! (<>http://www.janet-online.com ;)" - SySy Chapman

Tuli Asturias was challenged by herself to: "I am often daydreaming about what people would look like 100 years from now. How would fashion and lifestyle be, will our idea of what beautiful is have changed dramatically?
One thing is for sure, we will have had to change a lot in order to keep our planet from being destroyed.
It will dominate how we look, how we build our homes, how we consume, and probably also what kind of clothing and beauty products we use. In effect, in order to preserve our planet, we are forced to return to a lifestyle very close to nature, back to our roots as it were. However, we'll still want to look good, so I challenge you to think and envision a young woman, 100 years from now, in a world highly technologically advanced, yet in harmony with our planet. Show us what beauty enhancement she'd apply to her face and/or skin."

Fashion Designers Challenge 5/12

FDC # 9 - Clio Cardiff and Mouse Mimistrobell

Clio Cardiff was challenged by Samsara Nishi to: "Whenever we are too stressed, laugh is always a good way to dismiss the stress out! I guess the clown is the most primitive and universal profession that uses laugh as the main tool to make his work happen. I cut & pasted this from wikipedia: "Clowns are found in cultures of any time and place, because they meet some deeply rooted needs in humanity: violation of taboos, the mockery of sacred and profane authorities and symbols, reversal of language and action." - I challenge you to create a fancy and elegant clown costume. With just some few changes, your creation should adapt itself to at least those 2 different situations: a professional clown wearing it to perform his job; and also to a fancy fashionista wearing it to go to a red capet party. I wish you will have fun creating it !! " - Samsara Nishi

Mouse Mimistrobell was challenged by Eolande Elvehjem to: "Make a necklace, earrings and bracelet set inspired by Shakespeare's "A MidSummer Night's Dream"" - Eolande Elvehjem

"I live within the Darkness, dance among the shadows waiting and watching those of the light. I feel their emotion, their desires and feed in a frenzy. " " - Nyte Vargas

FASHION DESIGNERS CHALLENGE

FDC is a special & unique fashion event involving 35 well known fashion designers connected under a strong collaboration mode.
Basically they have to follow this rule: "Fashion-Designer-A" defines a challenge that "Fashion-Designers-B" will have to create, and "Fashion-Designer-C" will have to blog about.

Ivey Deschanel was challenged by Sevenstar Amat to: "Design a classical suit with pants and jacket for ladies" - Sevenstar Amat

Eolande Elvehjem was challenged by Alexandar Vargas to: "I challenge you to create a piece that is impossible to own in real life, something unique, something surreal that even the art community will look at as art. It must be something that can be worn, it has to be done using prim work. sculpted is ok, just not all sculpted. The piece has to be designed according to this poem." - Alexandar Vargas

TEAM 2: Amutey DeCuir and Sheltered Heart

Amutey DeCuir was challenged by Ivey Deschanel to: "Glam 70s...glitter, feathers, spacey wild colors and patterns ala early 70s Ziggy Stardust, New York Dolls, T-Rex" - Ivey Deschanel

Sheltered Heart was challenged by herself to: "A soft medieval style... long with maybe traditional accessories (beads, netting or jewels) but still modern wearable." - Sheltered Heart

Exclusive first view of the 7 sins dresses

Last night James and I sat and talked to Nevar Lobo and Amethyst Starostin about this years Clothing fair benefitting RFL and these gorgeous gowns you can see here for the very first time.

Dana: Tell me about the idea of the 7 sins dresses and the pirate theme
Nevar Lobo: Well way back last year when we were talking about the fair we threw out ideas for themes and Haroldthe Burrel wanted to do the 7 sins.
JamesT Juno: So orginally the sims were to be themed around the 7 sins?
Amethyst Starostin: actually the first idea was the 7 wonders of the medieval world
Nevar: We never did anything with 7 sins untill later when Synergy (Devonshire) found the dresses, well the pictures for the dresses
Amethyst: and then we kept kicking stuff around over the summer
JamesT: so who chose pirates and why?
Amethyst: Well...when Pips Fetid was still the head of the build team...she and her team had kicked it around... the medieval builds we had in mind were very time consuming so they started to discuss other options and came up with pirates partially because the Raider's theme song is "Airship Pirates" by Abney Park...but I could be wrong about that reasoning
Nevar: When pips left because of Real LIfe .. we just stuck with the theme and it was at that time we went back to the pictures of the 7 deadly sins and decided we would do an auction
Amethyst: there was a song Harry (Haroldthe Burrel) kept referring to... "the Pirates and the 7 deadly sins" and that's how we tied it
Dana: The seven sins dresses can you tell me what they are about, who made them etc....
Nevar: seven deadly sins designs ..

wrath ... Raven Pennyfeather
sloth .... moxie polano
lust ... Paul Lapointe and Bastchild Lotus
envy .... swaffette firefly
vanity .... wiccan sojuorner
gluttony ... nicky ree
avarice... Lemania Indigo

Amethyst: The artwork these are based on is truly magnificent and have inspired some amazing creations from the designers.
We approached 7 designers to create an interpretation of the dresses in the paintings for a one of a kind auction benefitting RFL. Each dress is the only one, the winning bidders will be the only person to wear that gown
Dana: and its to be a silent auction?
Nevar: We are going to use an auction script like we use when we do our Art Auctions... so people will be able to come place their bids... names will not be known, however, the top bid will show then at 8pm slt on SUnday the 22nd after the last Fashion show we will announce the winners of the gowns

Dana: What has been the hardest part of setting up an event this size?
Nevar: For me its been getting everyone here at the fair ...and dealing with wanting to keep letting people in and not cut off the number of designers... every day i get someone else wanting to be a part of this event .. and its hard to say no
Amethyst: For me it has been trying to remind everyone this is a team effort and to work together for the big picture

Dana: How did you manage to get 9 sims?
Amethyst: Through the excitement of a couple of people that weren't afraid to dream big with us we originally planned 9, but couldn't make it happen, so we rethought it to 6 and then we met with Babe and Eyeing Daligdig and their enthusiasm was amazing within that hour we were realizing our dream of 9 sims!
Nevar: We have to thank Eyeing's RL company too , they help cover some of those sims ..

Dana: Tell me how it works: each sim is sponsored?
Nevar: The sponsorship pays for the tier of the sim ... all the sims are brand new brought online by Ohana land group. The donations of the advertising , the designers deposits and treasure hunts .. all those funds will go right to RFL
Dana: How did you find the sponsors?
Nevar: We had a couple of designers and other people tell us if you need help covering tier let us know we will pay for one so .. that is actually how the idea of sim sponsors came about we felt we needed to do something for those people to thank them
so then we sent out notecards about advertising and on there was a level for sim sponsors and that is how we found the rest of the sponsors.

JamesT: One of the criticisms heard often at big events is lag, what have you done to help that this year
Amethyst: we've been very cognizant of lag, we've kept the build prims to a minimum, small texture sizes and limited use of scripts and sculpties plus lots of natural decorations... creative use of water and land
Nevar: All i can do is hope that with the amount of prim that is open on the sims and the wide space of area we will have more flow to lessen the client side lag
People need to realize that when they come to events like this.. to Shop not to wear alot of prim .. take shoes off ... and remove ao's and huds... other people are shopping and honestly they dont care what you look like they are here for the designers good stuff.

Dana: where can readers find out about events happening at the fair?
Nevar: all events are being listed in the events under search also they can follow in the blog
http://slrflclothingfair.blogspot.com/
also through you and through the designer groups of the different designers who are here at the fair. The newpaper and the blog will be the most upto date info on the fair
Dana: what to you is the most important factor of the clothing fair?
Nevar: To me ... the most important factor is RFL ... and that is why this fair benefits RFL this is all about community and raising money to help find a cure for cancer ... Together we can
Amethyst: we do this in the hope that one life will be saved...so that no one has to lose the people they love to this disease

Amethyst: The theme for this year's Relay campaign is One World, One Hope... it's about embracing our diversity and coming together for a common cause.. and my prayer is...as people work this year on Relay... that they remember this is not about them...but something much bigger than they will ever be
Nevar: i have one thing to say that i need the readers to know ... when they are shopping through this event .... and look in the stores... There are RFL vendors .. .. buy stuff .from those vendors... do the treasure hunt and remember that it takes only 1 L to make a difference ... that Together we find a cure .... and that is my hope that in my lifetime we will find one
The fair opens monday at 10am slt we hope everyone is knocking the doors down when we open the sims.

Dana: is there anyone you would especially like to mention?
Nevar: I would like to give a very special thanks to Moxie Polano ... who did all these wonderful stores... To Eyeing and Babe Daligdig for the sims... to Viscount Menatep for his building and getting us these great ships... You and James... for the continued support and partnerrship on this event ...Every designer who participates and of course the Raiders. Timeless modeling agency and lastly .. my wife .. cuz wihtout her i would have lost it a long time ago
Amethyst: there were many people who gathered to make this a success...they all deserve a big round of applause
Nevar: Together we will find a cure !

Styles of Edo and Azul Merge

Styles of Edo owner Edo Tone has proposed to merge with Mami Jewell of Azul.
Edo is well known for his beautifully tailored suits and Tuxedo's so his sponsorship of Azul is no surprise.
Edo demands the best quality of himself, as anyone can see by examining any of his designs. The same can be said of Mami's spectacular gowns.
Although new to SL she has an amazing design flair and attention to detail that astounded me.

In combination these two work wonders, I have personally decried most of SL's ladies suits, they tend to be boring or manish. When I do business I want to look like a business woman but I don't want to lose the sassy side of me in doing it. Most of the suits I have call for a compromise which I personally hate or because of my short hair I end up looking butch. This was a conversation I had with Edo a while ago, the result of his first collaboration with Mami can be seen here in the 'Dana' Leather suit. Retaining the sassy feel this suit can be worn for work or play, remove the jacket and be ready for anything :) It can be bought with different blouse colours and I am hopeful soon in other colour suits too.
Mami Jewell has had a lot to contend with in her short term in SL, feeling a certain restraint since her designs are so good for someone so new to SL, but I am sure with Edo's partnership they will both go from strength to strength.
A great partnership I am happy to endorse with the 'Dana' suit.

Eye on the blog - Lindens roll out new default Avs

We have seen these for the last week or so appearing in our inventory library and the designers have done a wonderful job, most of these are eminantly wearable and instant.
Most of us would not object to looking like this on a regular basis. Of course some will cause eyebrows to raise and can you imagine a newbie - someone without any experience of 'wearing' prims - trying to change from the box-bot to a human?
Saying that its great fun to see even if its hard to imagine LL with a sense of humour these days.

I would guess that some, like the Adam n Eve designs, are aimed at the corporate market - instant business man or woman, a good idea? I would say no as a huge part of having a secondlife is learning to be an individual, these ready to wear avatars are great but i can just imagine a corporate business meeting with a room full of newbies looking like this LOL
Great designs a lot of work has gone into the avatars, congratulations to all those chosen. I won't take anything from them they have come up with some really good designs - but maybe some of the selection is not newbie friendly, we shall see.
